Résumé

The purpose of this study is to investigate pre-service Arabic language teachers’ actual use of learning management systems, and identify the factors that promote or hinder integrating such technology as a pedagogical tool. A questionnaire and semi-structured interviews were used to collect data from 149 participants. The results revealed that more than 50% of the pre-service Arabic teachers did not use any type of LMSs to support Arabic language teaching. Moreover, the nature of LMS use is very modest in scope. LMS users concentrated on using this technology to achieve administrative tasks rather than pedagogical ones. A number of factors that influence their LMS integration were identified including pre-service preparation, strong infrastructures, pedagogical and technical support, rewards and incentives, and role models. The paper provides discussion of these findings and recommendations for effective use of LMS.
